Buy their books, enroll in their programs and attend their seminars. This is by far the best way of getting the attention of mentors. Some of them may doubt shelling out money for training and books. Buying their books give you a higher chance of getting both face and name recognition.

Take them to lunch

This is a low-cost way of getting the time of the mentor. Not everybody can say yes to this, however, nobody would turn down a free lunch offer. Mentors also have to eat, and you can get a slim chance that they are free for lunch. The advantage of having lunch together is that you will have their undivided attention and get involved in back and forth conversations. This helps you to qualify better whatever you want to be advised on.

Put teachings in action

This is the most important action you should take. It breaks or makes your relationship with your mentor. A mentee who does not put teachings into action irritates the mentor. When you fail to put the lessons into action, nothing happens, and you will not experience progress. The mentor will also feel like he has wasted his time helping you.

Follow-through and follow-up

studentsYou should take time to give them updates as you go along your journey. This helps you to keep in touch with the mentor since you can be forgotten if the mentor deals with hundreds or thousands of people. It will also keep you accountable as both you and the mentor see your progress. The mentor also enjoys sharing more when you show progress.
